1.) Submission Entry Period: The Submission Entry Period runs from February 1, 2017 at 12:01 A.M. EDT to April 1, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. EST.
2.) The Entry: The Entry herein refers to the mini-epic, which must be in English, can be on any topic (nonscientific topics are encouraged) and must be exactly 100 words in length, excluding the title. Hyphenated words, contractions and abbreviations count as one word. Words can be of any length. The mini-epic must be single spaced in Times New Roman, 12-point font, printed on one white piece of paper and should not have any identifying marks (e.g., your name). If submitted as a hard copy, it should be printed on one white piece of paper. If submitted electronically, it should be submitted as a single-paged pdf. Mini-epics not fulfilling these rules will be excluded, with no right of appeal.
3.) Entry Fee: Each mini epic must be accompanied by a $10.00 (Cdn) entry fee. The fee may be paid online at www.scriptmedical.com/script-award.html or by cheque, in Canadian funds, payable to SCRIPT Medical Writing, Inc. Acceptable proof of payment includes a cheque or a receipt indicating payment online. Entries not accompanied by proof of payment will not be accepted. Entry Fees will not be refunded for any reason, including disqualification.
4.) Number of Submissions: Each entrant may submit a maximum of five Entries. These may be submitted in one package or individually. Each Entry must be accompanied by its own Entry Form.
5.) Submission Package: The Submission Package must include (i) the completed Entry Form, (ii) the Entry and (iii) Proof of payment of the Entry Fee. Incomplete Submission Packages will not be accepted.
6.) Eligibility: The SCRIPT Award 2017 is open to any writers who have, or are enrolled in, a postgraduate science degree or diploma, or healthcare qualification as of April 1, 2017. To confirm academic and/or healthcare qualifications of Entrants, SCRIPT may contact the awarding institution, medical association or similar. The final decision on eligibility will rest with SCRIPT, with no right of appeal. Full-time employees of SCRIPT or members of the immediate family of, or someone domiciled with, an employee of SCRIPT are not eligible to enter. Members of the Judging Panel, their immediate families, their immediate colleagues, their graduate students or someone domiciled with a member of the Judging Panel are not eligible to enter.
7.) How To Enter:
- Hard-copy: To enter, mail, courier or deliver your hard-copy Submission Package to SCRIPT, Third floor - 2010 Yonge St., Toronto, ON, M4S 1Z9, Canada, with “The SCRIPT Award – Submission” marked clearly on the outside of the envelope. If submitting multiple entries, each Entry must have a corresponding entry form. All Submission Packages must be received during the Submission Entry Period.
- Electronic submission: E-mail submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org with SCRIPT Award 2017 in the subject line. Entries not accompanied by proof of payment will not be accepted.
8.) Submission Terms: By entering you agree to the following:
Proof that you sent a Submission Package does not constitute proof that it was received within the Submission Entry Period or that it is eligible for the Competition. SCRIPT reserves the right to disqualify and/or remove any Entry for any reason within its sole and absolute discretion. Without limiting the foregoing, any obscene, offensive or otherwise inappropriate Entry as determined by SCRIPT will not be considered.
By entering, you represent and warrant that:
i. your Entry is a previously unpublished original work by you and you have not included third-party content in or in connection with your Entry;
ii. no person or entity other than you has any right, title or interest in any part of your Entry;
iii. your Entry, the use thereof by SCRIPT, or the exercise by SCRIPT of any of the rights granted by you does not and will not infringe or violate any rights of any third party or entity, including, without limitation patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, defamation, privacy, publicity, false light, misappropriation, intentional or negligent infliction of emotional distress, confidentiality, or any contractual or other rights;
iv. you have been granted, or are enrolled in, a postgraduate science degree, a postgraduate science-related diploma or a healthcare qualification; and
v. you understand, recognize and accept that in the event that your Entry is identical or similar to the Entry of another Entrant, SCRIPT reserves the right to score one Entry higher than the other at the sole discretion of SCRIPT and the Judging Panel.
By entering, you agree that:
i. the winning Entry becomes SCRIPT's property, and no Entry will be returned;
ii. SCRIPT (and its authorized representatives) have the unlimited right to alter and/or edit the winning Entry or any part or element thereof;
iii. SCRIPT and their licensees, successors and assigns have the right to use the winning Entry for future advertising, promotion and publicity in any manner and in any medium now known or hereafter devised throughout the world in perpetuity; and
iv. if your Entry is selected as the winning Entry:
- the winning Entry, together with your name and scientific/healthcare qualifications provided, will be posted on SCRIPT's website (www.scriptmedical.com), and you consent to the release and posting of such information on www.scriptmedical.com by SCRIPT; and
- you irrevocably transfer, convey and assign to SCRIPT all right, title and interest in and to your Entry, in whole and in part, and all the intellectual property rights therein, throughout the world in perpetuity, including without limitation any and all copyrights and the registration, renewal, and derivative rights and you waive all moral rights and rights of attribution relating thereto and agree to execute all documents and perform all acts deemed necessary by SCRIPT to apply for, register, perfect and record such transfer and assignment and/or waivers and protect SCRIPT's right in the intellectual property. You will not now nor in the future be paid for your Entry or for granting SCRIPT any of these rights, other than the Prize. SCRIPT, its affiliates, licensees, successors and assigns are in no way obligated to use or continue to use your Entry (and have no obligation to you or any other person or entity after your Entry is received). You agree to waive all claims to and shall receive no royalties of any kind now or in the future from SCRIPT, its affiliates, licensees, successors and assigns for use of your Entry including copyright, trademark, public performance, digital sound recording, mechanical, synchronization or master use royalties, and you represent, warrant and agree that no other party is entitled to claim royalties from the use of the Entry as set forth in these Official Rules.
There is one (1) Prize of $1,000 (Canadian funds) to be awarded for The SCRIPT Award 2017.
The potential Winner will be notified in the late spring of 2017. If a potential Winner cannot be contacted within 14 days after initial attempt to contact, the Prize will be awarded to the second-place Entry.
10.) Judging Criteria: Eligible Entries will be judged by SCRIPT and the Judging Panel. All decisions of SCRIPT are final, with no right of appeal
11.) RELEASE: BY SUBMITTING A COMPLETED ENTRY FORM, YOU RELEASE SCRIPT, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND AGENTS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS COMPETITION AND THE AWARDING OF ANY PRIZE, NOW OR IN THE FUTURE.
12.) Miscellaneous: By entering the Competition, you agree to abide by and be bound by these Official Rules, which are final. By entering, the Winner agrees that SCRIPT may use his/her name, comments, Entry and likeness in any matters related to this Competition, including any advertising or publicity, without compensation or further consent. SCRIPT accepts no responsibility for losses, damages or claims caused by or resulting from the Prize. Correspondence will be entered into only with the Winner. This Competition is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws.
13.) Privacy: The personal information on the Entry Form is collected for the purpose of administering this Competition. By submitting an Entry Form, each Entrant consents to the collection, use and disclosure indicated above.
